The 60's

Born on the 12th of July 1955 in Haarlem, Netherlands, Jan Veil looses both his parents at a very young age. The difficult years of his youth, spent in an orphanage, are also years of crucial growth and personal discovery that lead him to his future academic successes. The first people to recognise his potential are the caretakers of the institution, who decide to cultivate his talent and his precocious appreciation of art and enrol him in a university in Canada. Before his departure, young Veil decides to change his first name: Petal, as he is now known, is a tribute to his late father and his family of Dutch floriculturists.
